We had gorgeous light and an amazing backdrop for Haley and Josh’s fall engagement session at Carvins Cove, Virginia. This is such a beautiful location that I love to visit whenever I travel back to the state. Haley and Josh were such naturals in front of the camera and we all had a lot of laughs!

The Mountains are Calling

John Muir, the creator of the National Park system once said, “The mountains are calling and I must go.” I grew up in Roanoke, so I occasionally shoot weddings in Virginia. I love being among the mountains, and I enjoy visiting my home state to capture such beautiful areas in my client’s photos! Carvins Cove Natural Reserve has 12,000 acres with sixty miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. This area is protected by the largest conservation easement in Virginia’s state history.

Carvins Cove provides a large source of fresh water from rain draining from the reserve into the reservoir. Even though a dam was constructed in the late 1920’s and was eventually purchased by the Western Virginia Water Authority to provide water for local residents, the City of Roanoke retained ownership of the land. Now many locals and visitors enjoy the multi-use trails and land that is protected by the local parks and recreation department.

Haley and I went to high school together, and we had band camp together every year. She played the clarinet, and I was on the dance team. It was such an honor for her and Josh to call me to shoot their engagement session and their wedding this spring! Haley and Josh love spending time with their sweet pup Bennett, and going to sporting events. Haley roots to Virginia Tech and Josh is a UVA fan. As you can imagine, they have a “divided house” every November when they play football. Josh and Haley also love going out to eat for date nights.

Their engagement session ended up being a perfect sunny day in October, surrounded by the mountains and the lake within the reservoir. Josh has the best “fake” laugh, and it cracked us all up every time! Capturing these natural moments with genuine laughs with my wedding couples is what makes my job so easy! As the sun started to set over the lake, the sky filled with perfect golden hour light! I hope their wedding in March at the Glass Hill Venue is just as and more beautiful than their engagement session.

Congratulations to Haley and Josh! Thank you for choosing me to document your fall engagement session at Carvins Cove, Virginia. I’m so excited for your spring wedding! If you’re engaged and thinking of getting married in Virginia this year, I am your girl! Send me an email so we can talk dates.
